Sunscreens are Damaging our Planet
Summer 2011 officially arrives on Tuesday, June 21st. Summer brings with it a lot; vacationing, time at the beach, swimming pools, picnics, barbecues, family reunions, weddings, bugs, suntans, sunburns, peeling skin, and unfortunately, skin cancer.
In my teenage years, we used to glop on baby oil and Crisco to get the deepest, darkest tan. Usually, we ended up with the reddest, most painful sunburn; followed by peeling…then we’d start all over again.

Ouch!
Sunscreens and Sunblocks are Introduced to our Society
In my 40s & 50s, I got a bit smarter and started using sunscreens & sunblocks, especially on my face, as I saw what years of baking in the sun and using tanning beds has done to other people.
I never thought twice about the brands of sunscreens I was using until last year when I attended a seminar which featured Don VerHulst, M.D. (affectionately known as “Dr. Don”) the chief developer of many of the It Works! nutritional supplements. He is a wealth of knowledge about why using natural alternatives is much more beneficial and less harmful than the traditional stuff that our society has been using for so long.
One of the tidbits of information that stayed with me from that day is that the chemicals and toxins in many of the sunscreens and sunblocks we use for protection are actually more harmful than the sun itself. It makes sense: We need a certain amount of sun exposure to absorb Vitamin D, but of course in moderation.
According to Charley Richards, Co-Creator and and Manufacturer of Envy Organics,
“…there have been many studies done recently about the harmful effects of chemical sunscreens on our coral reefs…8,000 tons of toxins are dumped on the coral reefs each year by chemical sunscreens.”

Sunscreens Cause Coral Reef Damage
They’re actually bleaching and killing the reefs (as shown in the picture above). This damage also has permanent, adverse effects on our environment. Many national parks have strict policies against using sunscreens because of all the damage they are doing. Be prepared when you travel and have a natural sunscreen ready to go – they will most likely not be found in the hotel lobby.
Envy sunscreens are 100% natural and have no ill-effect. They bio-degrade in 15 days, compared to months & months with many other brands. They also have many positive benefits for your skin, which you can learn about by visiting the site The 3-Ps of Suncare.

Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive learn something like this before. So nice to search out anyone with some authentic thoughts on this subject. realy thanks for beginning this up. this website is one thing that is wanted on the net, someone with somewhat originality. useful job for bringing something new to the internet!
You made various good points there. I did a search on the subject and found nearly all persons will have the same opinion with your blog.
When I was in Mexico 2 years ago we snorkeled at a National Reef Park and there were serious warnings about using no sunscreens. Us gringos scrambled to buy white t-shirts to protect our lilly white backs! we all made sure to hydrate well and all was fine. You have to respect the wildlife on the planet. It’s important that it is not harmed by sunscreen chemicals. Great post – good subject to talk about. – Alyssa
Thanks Alyssa–I appreciate your observations and agree that we all have to do our part to save the planet–it’s the only one we have! (That’s inhabitable!)
